Brine Fly, Ephydra cinerea

Antelope Island State Park
Order Diptera; Family Ephydridae
The Great Salt Lake is much saltier than sea water, and only a few species can survive in it, including some algae, brine shrimp, and the larva of the brine fly (adults are shown here). The shrimp and flies provide food for a variety of insects and birds that live along the shoreline.
