Hoodoos in Bryce Canyon

Bryce Canyon National Park
The various spires are called hoodoos and are produced by differential erosion. Freezing-thawing cycles and water produce ravines along the edge of the plateau. These expand to form rock fins between the ravines, and these then erode in spires where ever they are protected from erosion by harder layers of rocks (such as the whitish layers).
